Hyundai Concept THREE Teased as First Compact EV from Ioniq Sub Brand

Hyundai has teased the upcoming Concept THREE, the first-ever compact EV concept from its Ioniq sub-brand. The world premiere will take place at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich between 9 and 14 September. This unveiling also marks Hyundai’s return to the event after four years.

Fresh Teaser Reveals New Design Direction

The teaser image shows the side profile of Concept THREE, created under Hyundai’s new Art of Steel design philosophy. The body features flowing surfaces and sharp character lines, giving it a dynamic and futuristic look.

Hyundai is also introducing a new design theme called “Aero Hatch”, which highlights a coupé-inspired silhouette with aerodynamic efficiency.

Bold and Sporty Styling

Early sketches reveal a motorsport-inspired stance with details such as:

- Bold rear wing and diffuser
- Pronounced front splitter
- Slim wraparound lights
- Muscular haunches
- Steeply raked glasshouse

These elements give the concept a sporty yet refined character, blending performance with modern EV styling.

Likely Preview of Ioniq 3

Hyundai says the Concept THREE will play a key role in shaping the future of compact EVs, particularly for the European market where demand for smaller electric cars is rising. Reports suggest it will preview the upcoming Ioniq 3, which is expected to enter production by Q3 2026.

Expected Powertrain and Range

The production version of the Ioniq 3 will likely use Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, shared with the Kia EV3. It is expected to offer 58.3kWh and 81.4kWh battery options, delivering a range of up to 599 km. Power output is likely to be around 201 bhp from a single front-mounted motor.

Interior and Tech Features

Inside, Hyundai promises a step change in usability with an upgraded infotainment system. The system will be capable of adjusting features like ambient lighting and cabin acoustics based on driving modes or user preferences.

Hyundai Returns to IAA After Four Years

The Hyundai Concept THREE will take centre stage at the brand’s press conference on 9 September at IAA Mobility 2025. This marks Hyundai’s comeback to the global auto show after four years, underlining the importance of this concept in its EV roadmap.
