Chinese carmaker Chery has quietly filed a design patent for the Tiggo 8 SUV in India. While there’s no official confirmation of a launch, this move has already sparked speculation that Chery might be preparing for its entry into the Indian SUV market. If launched, the Tiggo 8 could make a strong statement in the premium SUV space.
The Tiggo 8 is no small SUV. At 4.7 metres long and nearly 1.9 metres wide, it sits in the same size bracket as premium offerings like the Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Meridian. Its 2.7-metre wheelbase also suggests a spacious interior, though the international model sticks to a five-seat layout instead of a three-row setup.

Chery seems to have loaded the Tiggo 8 with premium features. Highlights include a huge 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 12-speaker audio system, multi-colour ambient lighting, wireless charging, and a 540-degree panoramic camera system. The interior gets brown leather upholstery.
When it comes to safety, the Tiggo 8 doesn’t hold back. It offers nine airbags, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) with 19 active functions, and even a built-in dashcam. These features position it as a modern SUV ready to meet global safety standards.
Globally, the Tiggo 8 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 241 bhp and 390 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and an intelligent 4WD system from ZF. On paper, this setup looks strong enough to handle Indian highways and rough patches with ease.
If Chery decides to launch the Tiggo 8 in India, it is expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakh. In this range, it would go up against the Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XEV 9e, Tata Harrier EV, Jeep Meridian, and BYD Atto 3.
