The long-awaited Kia Clavis 3-row RV (Recreational Vehicle) has finally been revealed in the Indian market. To be positioned above the Kia Carens, the new Carens Clavis is a premium offering and sits right between the Maruti Ertiga/XL6 and the Toyota Innova Hycross. Kia will continue to sell the Carens alongside the new 7-seater premium MPV, which is equipped with high-end features.
Kia has already started accepting bookings for the new Carens Clavis at a token amount of Rs 25,000. Based on the Carens, the new MPV gets significant design and interior changes along with several high-end features. It shares most of its features with the new Kia Syros, which comes as a more premium offering from the Korean brand.
The Kia Carens Clavis will be available in 7 variants - HTE, HTE(O), HTK, HTK+, HTK+(O), HTX and HTX+. It comes with an all-new front fascia, featuring latest Kia’s ‘digital tiger face’. The front looks similar to the Kia EV9, featuring thin LED DRLs with triangular-shaped housing for the LED headlights. It comes with more angular bumpers with silver bash plates. The silhouette remains similar to the Carens, but Clavis has new dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels, and black plastic cladding with silver garnish on doors. At the back, the MPV gets thicker LED light band connecting tail-lights.
The cabin layout looks similar to the Carens MPV, and is available in 6-seat and 7-seat layout. To make it look different, the company has added new seat upholstery and door trim in lighter shades. The Kia Clavis comes with a 22.62-inch dual-screen set-up incorporating a 10.25-inch digital instrument console and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. It also features newly designed air-con vents and new controls for the automatic AC. Additionally, the MPV gets two-spoke flat-bottom steering that’s available in the Syros as well.
It is offered in eight monotone colour options including the new Ivory Silver Gloss. Other paint choices include Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Sparkling Silver, Aurora Black Pearl and Clear White. Interestingly, the Kia Clavis is not available with a dual-tone paint scheme.
The new Clavis comes with a large display incorporating a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment unit, and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. Some of the features include 4-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, 8-speaker Bose sound system, dash-cam with dual view, six airbags, 360-degree surround view camera with blind spot monitoring and others.
Similar to the Kia Syros, the new Clavis also gets a panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, and sliding and reclining 2nd row seats. It also gets LEVEL 2 ADAS with features like front collision avoidance assist, driver attention warning (new), adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist and others.
The Kia Clavis shares its powertrain options with the Carens MPV. It is offered with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo diesel and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine. The naturally-aspirated unit, paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, produces 114bhp and 144Nm of torque.
The turbo diesel engine is good for 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. On the flip side, the turbo petrol unit is good for 157bhp and 253Nm of torque. Gearbox options include a 6-speed MT, a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT.
