4 New 7-Seater Hybrid SUVs Coming to India – Kia Sorento, MG Hector and More

Kia Sorento Hybrid will launch in India on September 4, 2026. MG Hector Tomahawk will get an EV first, followed by a plug-in hybrid. Renault and Nissan are preparing new seven-seater SUVs for 2027.

The seven-seater SUV segment in India is set for several new launches, with automakers preparing hybrid-powered models across different price points. Kia, MG, Renault and Nissan are expected to bring new three-row SUVs with strong-hybrid or plug-in hybrid technology during the remainder of 2026 and 2027. These upcoming models will target buyers who want the practicality of a large SUV while offering better fuel efficiency than conventional petrol-powered models.

1. Kia Sorento Hybrid

Kia will be among the first manufacturers to enter this space with the launch of the Sorento in India on September 4, 2026. Pre-bookings for the three-row SUV are already open, and it will sit above the Seltos in Kia's India lineup. The Sorento is expected to use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid powertrain producing around 230PS. A diesel engine is also expected to be offered alongside the hybrid.

The SUV will feature a premium cabin with twin 12.3-inch displays, Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, large alloy wheels, automatic climate control and ventilated front seats. The Sorento is expected to bring AWD as well, making it a more capable option for buyers looking for a premium seven-seater.

2. MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV

JSW MG Motor India is also preparing the Hector Tomahawk, which is expected to launch on August 28, 2026. The new three-row SUV is derived from the Wuling Starlight 560 sold in international markets. The Hector Tomahawk will initially be introduced as a pure electric SUV, followed by a plug-in hybrid version later in the current financial year.

The PHEV version is expected to combine a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 20.5kWh battery pack. The combined system could produce around 197PS and 230Nm, while the battery is claimed to offer up to 100km of electric-only range under the CLTC cycle.

3. Renault's New 7-Seater SUV

Renault is developing a larger three-row SUV based on the new Duster. The upcoming model is expected to arrive in India during the next financial year and could take design inspiration from the global-spec Boreal.

The new SUV is expected to share the Duster family's powertrain options. These could include a 1.0-litre petrol engine, a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit and a larger 1.8-litre strong-hybrid powertrain. The addition of a three-row SUV will allow Renault to expand beyond the Duster and compete for a larger share of India's growing family SUV market.

4. Nissan 7-Seater SUV

Nissan is also preparing its own three-row SUV based on the Renault project. The upcoming model is expected to be linked to the Tekton programme and could arrive a few months after Renault's seven-seater SUV.

While details about the Nissan version remain limited, it is expected to share its platform and powertrain technology with the upcoming Renault SUV. This could allow Nissan to offer a hybrid-powered three-row SUV without developing an entirely separate powertrain.
