One of the most anticipated electric SUVs - the eVitara has been unveiled by the Japanese automaker in Milan, Italy. The vehicle is based on the eVX concept which was previously showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. This mass-production BEV will arrive in India by March 2025. Apart from the Indian market, the Vitara EV will be on sale in Japanese and European markets by next year.
The Brand's first midsize electric SUV, the eVitara will give tough competition to Tata Curvv EV and the upcoming Mahindra BE 6e in the Indian market. Know more about the dimensions and specifications of the Maruti eVitara (eVX) electric SUV.
The 5-seater Vitara EV is designed using a High-Tech & Adventure theme. Its exterior design is characterized by the large-diameter tires and the long wheelbase. The overall length of the eVitara measures 4275 mm while its width stands at 1800 mm. With a height of 1635 mm, the eSUV offers a wheelbase of 2700 mm. In addition, the EV has a ground clearance of 180 mm. It weighs 1702-1899 kg depending on the variant.
The eVitara is built on the all-new HEARTECT-e platform, developed specifically for battery electric vehicles. This platform is lightweight and offers high-voltage protection. The Euro-spec model comes with two battery packs - 49kWh and 61 kWh. The smaller battery is paired with a single front-axle mounted electric motor, which can deliver a power output of 142 bhp and 189 Nm. Meanwhile, the larger battery unit has both single and dual motor choices, offering the power of 172 bhp/189 Nm and 184 bhp/300 Nm, respectively. Further, the 49kWh battery unit has 2WD while the larger battery pack is offered with both 2WD and 4WD drive systems.
Maruti eVitara comes with an electric 4WD system - ALLGRIP-e. This drive type features two independent eAxles at both front and rear. Not only does this ALLGRIP-e electric 4WD system have powerful performance, but it also allows for precise control with excellent responsiveness. It even has the Trail mode which offers smooth driving on rough terrain by applying brakes to spin tyres and distributing drive torque to the opposite tyre which we call limited-slip differential (LSD function).
