Maruti electric MPV expected to launch by end of 2026. Maruti hybrid MPV could be based on the Japan-spec Suzuki Solio.

Considering the surge in SUV sales, Maruti Suzuki plans to expand its UV (utility vehicle) portfolio over the next 3-4 years. The upcoming lineup will be available with multiple powertrains including petrol, CNG, electric, hybrid and flex-fuel. Targeting the family car buyers, Maruti Suzuki will introduce two new MPVs – one with an electric powertrain and the other with strong hybrid technology.

The upcoming Maruti electric MPV, codenamed YMC, is expected to arrive by the end of 2026. Codenamed YVF, the hybrid MPV might hit Indian roads sometime in 2029. Here’re the key details of these upcoming MPVs.

Maruti Suzuki has begun testing the upcoming electric MPV, which is likely to share its platform and powertrain with the eVitara. This means, it could be offered with three powertrain configurations 49kWh 2WD, 61kWh 2WD and 61kWh AWD. The Maruti eVitara delivers a claimed range of up to 428km on a full charge.

Spy suggest that the upcoming Maruti electric MPV will feature an upright and tallboy stance. It might derive several design elements from the eVitara SUV and the Ertiga MPV. The spied test mule sport eVitara-inspired front bumper, large headlamps with drop-down element, pull-type door handles and vertical taillamps wrapped around the windscreen.

In Japan, the Suzuki Solio is offered with a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol hybrid powertrain and a CVT transmission. It measures 3,810mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,745mm in height while featuring a wheelbase of 2,480mm. Similar to the Japan-spec Solio, the Maruti YVF is expected to feature powered sliding rear doors.
