Maruti Suzuki plans to launch three new MPVs in India. The Maruti YMC will target premium electric MPV segment. The YMC will rival Renault Triber and Nissan Gravite.
Maruti Suzuki has a strong focus on expanding its UV (utility vehicle) lineup with several new model launches in the coming years. In the next 2-3 years, the Indo-Japanese automaker will introduce three major MPVs (multi-purpose vehicles), targeting large family car buyers. The upcoming range will include the Maruti Ertiga facelift, the Maruti YMC premium electric MPV and the Maruti YDB entry-level sub-4 metre MPV.
The highly-popular Maruti Ertiga MPV is set to receive a midlife update in late 2026 or early 2027. The MPV is expected to come with subtle design changes such as a slightly redesigned front grille, new LED headlamps, LED DRLs and LED fog lamps, newly-designed 16-inch alloy wheels and connected LED taillamps.
Aiming to further enhance the cabin experience, Maruti Suzuki might equip it with several new features. Under the hood, however, the new 2026 Maruti Ertiga facelift is expected to feature the existing 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine is available with both manual and automatic gearbox options, and delivers output of 103PS and 137Nm.
The production-ready Maruti YMC (codenamed) electric MPV could arrive towards the end of this year or early next year. It’s likely to share the skateboard EV architecture with the eVitara. Similar to its electric sibling, the YMC might be offered with two battery pack options, 40kWh and 60kWh, delivering range pf up to 550km.
In terms of features, the Maruti YMC is expected to offer a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, connected car technology, wireless charger, a panoramic or fixed glass roof, a 360-degree camera and a Level-2 ADAS suite.
When launched, the new Maruti electric MPC will compete against the Kia Carens EV, BYD eMax7 and VInFast VF MPV 7.
The Maruti YDB will be an entry-level MPV positioned below the Ertiga, challenging the Renault Triber and Nissan Gravite. It’s expected to be based on the Suzuki Spacia, which is already on sale in Japan. However, the India-bound model is likely to feature a different design language. While the Japan-spec Spacia features sliding doors, ottoman-like rear seat extensions and several other advanced features, the Maruti YDB might not offer some of these to achieve competitive pricing.
In Japan, the Suzuki Spacia is available with a 660cc engine. However, the India-spec model could be offered with the 1.2L Z-Series petrol engine along with Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed strong hybrid powertrain. Both manual and automatic transmissions are expected to be offered.
