New Honda Sub-4 Meter SUV India Launch Timeline Revealed

Honda to launch new compact SUV in 2028 To be based on a new platform Likely to get a hybrid powertrain

We informed you earlier that Honda is preparing an all-new sub-4 meter SUV for the Indian market. Now, the company has officially announced this compact SUV at its business briefing. Honda will introduce two all-new SUVs in two vehicle categories: sub-4 meter and the mid-size category. This will mark the brand’s re-entry into the sub-4 meter SUV category since the WR-V discontinued in March 2023.

New Honda compact SUV launch timeline

Honda has officially announced that the new sub-4 meter SUV will be launched in the Indian market in 2028. This sub-4 meter SUV will take on the likes of the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Maruti Brezza. Additionally, the company will also introduce the mid-sized SUV in 2028.

New Honda sub-4 meter SUV: What to Expect?

Honda hasn’t revealed any information about the new compact SUV. However, it is confirmed that the SUV will be designed and developed keeping Indian buyers in mind. The official press briefing stated, “Honda will utilise external resources more flexibly and strategically, including the cost competitiveness and speed of local business in China and India and industry-standard components.”

It is reported that Honda is developing an all-new architecture, internally called the PF2 to develop new SUVs and the next-gen City sedan for the Indian market. The new platform will be flexible enough to accommodate different body styles and powertrains, including ICE, EV and hybrid. It is early to comment whether the new sub-4 meter SUV will come with ICE-only or hybrid powertrain. An EV derivative could also be introduced in our market.

We expect the new Honda compact SUV to share design and interior details with the newer range of Honda cars, including the Elevate and the ZR-V. The small SUV is expected to get a boxy design with squared-off front looks, high ground clearance and flatter roof.

Upcoming Honda Cars

Honda will soon introduce the ZR-V SUV as a fully-imported model in the Indian market. Adding to it, the company has officially started testing the Alpha 0 Series electric SUV on the Indian roads. The electric SUV is scheduled to be launched in India in early 2027. The next-gen Honda City is rumoured to be launched in 2028, while a new mid-sized SUV, most probably a 7-seater model, is likely to join the new sub-4 meter SUV in 2028. Honda could also introduce the next-gen Amaze sometime in 2029.
