We reported earlier that Nissan will launch 3 new models including a sub-4 meter MPV, a 5-seater C-SUV and a 3-row SUV in the Indian market in the next 1 year. The new MPV will be based on the Renault Triber's CMF-A modular platform and is set to go on sale before the end of this year. The C-SUV and the 7-seater D-SUV will be launched in FY26. Nissan has also confirmed that the 5-seater C-SUV design will be inspired by the globally-popular Nisan Patrol SUV.
In an official release, Nissan stated that the C-SUV will offer a "high approach and departure angle" along with a high ground clearance to suit Indian road conditions. For people not in the know, the new Nissan SUV will be based on Renault-Nissan Alliance's CMF-B modular platform. This platform also underpins the 3rd generation Renault Duster and the Renault Bigster.
The platform will be heavily localized to achieve competitive pricing in the market. The company is not likely to use the Terrano nameplate for the upcoming mid-sized SUV. Following the previous strategy, Nissan will position the new C-SUV slightly above the Renault Duster. It will be more premium and will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in the segment.
The teaser reveals that the new Nissan C-SUV will come with a uniquely styled front fascia, featuring L-shaped LED daytime running lights connected by a chrome strip. Also visible are the two thin chrome bars that runs across the entire length of the front grille with the Nissan logo sits right in the centre. It has slimmer headlamp setup, newly styled front bumpers with C-shaped silver cladding, new alloys and pronounced creases and bonnet scoops.
Details on the new C-SUV interiors are yet to be revealed. We believe that the new Nissan SUV will come with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 7-inch digital instrument console, wireless connectivity, 360-degree surround view camera, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and LEVEL 2 ADAS tech.
The company has confirmed that the new Nissan C-SUV will get the 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 155bhp and 250Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Japanese brand could also introduce an entry-level variant with a 1.5L NA petrol engine with a manual gearbox. Nissan could also introduce the AWD version of the C-SUV, as its French-cousin, the third-gen Duster is offered with the AWD setup in global markets.
