It is no secret that Nissan India is developing two brand new SUVs including a 5-seater mid-sized and a 7-seater model for the Indian and global markets. In fact, the Japanese maker confirmed that both SUVs will be launched in India in FY 2026-27. Nissan is not likely to bring back the Terrano and Kicks nameplate in our market. A new media report claims that the next Nissan SUV will be called the Nissan Kait.
The new Nissan SUV will be a global model and is likely to arrive in Brazil first, followed by other markets. Brazilian media reports that the new Nissan Kait won’t be smaller, cheaper than the new Kicks Play on sale in the market. However, the next-gen Nissan Kicks is longer and comes as a direct rival to the Jeep Compass.
Nissan Brazil will also export the new SUV to more than 20 countries in Latin America, including Mexico and Argentina. It will also launch in Asian markets and India could serve as an export hub. The new SUV will be produced at Renault-Nissan Alliance’s Chennai based production facility.
The new Nissan Kait has already been caught testing on the Brazilian roads. The new SUV will have its unique design with no relation to the Renault Kardian and Nissan Magnite. It will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B modular platform that also underpins the new Renault Duster on sale in global markets.
Renault will also launched the third-gen Duster SUV and its 7-seater derivative in India in 2026. Both SUVs will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan’s facility in Chennai. The Kait based 7-seater SUV is also under development for growing markets including India. It will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in its category.
The new Nissan SUV will also be produced in the brand’s Resende (RJ) manufacturing facility in Brazil. It is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with manual and CVT gearbox options. The India-spec model is likely to be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox choices. Nissan could also use the 1.5L NA petrol or a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol. The Japanese brand could also introduce the hybrid versions of these two SUVs in the Indian market.
