The Czech automaker is all set to foray into the highly competitive sub-4-metre SUV segment early next year with the all-new Skoda Kylaq. It will be the third Skoda offering based on the MQB-A0-IN platform and the first model to come under the brand’s India 2.5 strategy. The carmaker has started testing the Kylaq extensively, and it has been caught on camera multiple times. Recently, one of its test mules was spotted with heavy camouflage, revealing some of its design elements and features. Let’s take a look at what we can expect from the base variant of the new Skoda compact SUV.
The entry-level variant of the Skoda Kylaq will offer all basic amenities. There will be an analogue instrument cluster, fabric seat upholstery, a centre console with cup holders, a manual handbrake, and a manual IRVM. The spotted test mule was missing an infotainment system and an audio system. Its steering wheel appears to be borrowed from the elder sibling – Kushaq.
Considering the fact that Skoda offers several safety features as standard across its model lineup, the Kylaq’s base variant could come packed with electronic stability control, traction control, ABS with EBD, six airbags, Isofix seats, motor slip regulation, and rollover protection.
The Skoda Kylaq will carry the brand’s Modern Solid design language, and its base variant will feature the signature slatted grille and halogen headlamps with DRLs. While alloy wheels will be reserved for the higher trim, the lower ones will have 16-inch wheels with steel rims. The test mule was missing a defogger and a wiper, which are likely to be exclusive to higher trims. The front and rear wheels were equipped with disc and drum brakes, respectively.
Powering the upcoming Skoda Kylaq will be the Kushaq’s 1.0L TSI petrol engine, which produces a maximum power of 115PS and 178Nm of torque. The base variant could be offered only with a manual gearbox, with the 6-speed automatic transmission likely to be available from mid-spec onwards.
