Tata Curvv Could Soon Get a CNG Option

Tata Curvv test mule spotted again. CNG version could be under development. May use Tata's dual-cylinder CNG technology.

Tata Motors could soon expand the Curvv lineup with a new CNG variant. A camouflaged test mule of the SUV has been spotted on Indian roads, even though the model is already on sale. This suggests Tata could be testing a new powertrain for the Curvv.

While the company has not officially confirmed the details, the test vehicle is believed to be a CNG version.

CNG Version Makes Sense

Tata Motors has already said that it plans to introduce CNG powertrains in more vehicles measuring over four metres. The Curvv is one of the strongest candidates, especially since the company is also testing the upcoming Sierra with a CNG setup.

If launched, the Curvv CNG is expected to use Tata's dual-cylinder CNG technology. This setup places two smaller CNG cylinders under the boot floor, leaving enough luggage space while also making room for a spare wheel. This technology is already available in Tata models like the Nexon CNG and has been well received by buyers.

Could Be a More Affordable Choice

A factory-fitted CNG option could make the Curvv more attractive to buyers looking for lower running costs.

With fuel prices remaining high, CNG continues to be a popular choice among daily commuters. A Curvv CNG would offer buyers the SUV's coupe-style design along with the savings that come with a CNG-powered vehicle.

It is also expected to compete with models such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG.

Could Help Increase Sales

The Curvv received a good response when it was launched, but sales have slowed in recent months.

Over the last 12 months, Tata Motors has sold 18,763 units of the Curvv, averaging around 1,560 units per month. In June 2026, the SUV recorded 1,753 units, showing an improvement over May, but sales remained lower than the figures seen during the first few months after launch.

Introducing a CNG version could help Tata reach a wider group of buyers and strengthen the Curvv's position in the midsize SUV segment.

Flex-Fuel Version Also Possible

Although a CNG version appears to be the strongest possibility, some reports suggest Tata could also be testing flex-fuel technology.

The company has not entered the flex-fuel passenger vehicle segment yet, and the Curvv could become one of the first Tata models to use this technology in the future.

Official Confirmation Awaited

Tata Motors has not shared any official information about the camouflaged Curvv test vehicle. For now, the CNG version remains a strong possibility, but the company is expected to reveal more details closer to launch.
