Three 7-seater Hybrid SUVs Launching by 2027: Mahindra XUV 7XO

The Indian automotive industry is undergoing a massive tactical shift. While pure EVs continue to rise, strong hybrids and plug-in hybrids are emerging as the preferred choice for buyers looking to escape range anxiety with EVs. If you are looking to buy a premium, 3-row family SUV, here are three highly anticipated 7-seater hybrid SUVs set for launch by 2027 -

MG Starlight 560

MG HYbrid SUV 7-seater

JSW MG Motor India will launch an all-new SUV based on the Wuling Starlight 560 in the country by Diwali 2026. This 7-seater SUV will come with PHEV and electric powertrains. The global-spec model measures 4745mm in length, 1850mm in width and 1755mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2810mm. It is around 50mm longer than the Mahindra XUV 7XO, along with a longer wheelbase.

The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. It offers a combined power and torque output of 194bhp and 230Nm, respectively. The SUV offers a pure electric range of 100km and a total range of 1100km.

Mahindra XUV 7XO

Mahindra is considering multiple hybrid powertrain options, including range-extender EVs and strong hybrids. It is expected that the Mahindra XUV 7XO will be the first model to receive a strong hybrid engine. The XUV 7XO hybrid is expected to be launched around 2027. The company could utilise the 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine paired to an electric motor and a small battery pack. The SUV would run on electric power for short distances, while using the combustion engine to drive wheels when required.

Kia Sorento

Kia 7-seater hybrid SUV

Kia is preparing to launch an all-new 7-seater SUV in India, and it is rumoured to be based on the next-gen Sorento SUV. Likely to be launched in 2027, the new Kia Sorento 7-Seat will rival the upcoming MG Starlight 560 PHEV and Mahindra XUV 7XO Hybrid. It is expected to feature a bolder design inspired by the flagship EV9 and the Kia Telluride. It will have a fully digital cockpit, and a more electrified powertrains with extended-range hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.

The India-spec model is likely to come in 6-and 7-seat layout. It is likely to get a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol hybrid, which will also power the new Kia Seltos and the next-gen Hyundai Creta. We believe that the SUV could get the 1.6L hybrid powertrain offered with the global-spec Kia Seltos.
