Tata Motors to launch Sierra ICE and EV by January 2026 Renault will introduce the third-gen Duster in Q1, 2026 Mahindra's Vision S based compact SUV to be revealed in 2026
The Indian auto industry is on the cusp of a paradigm shift, as the nation’s favourite vehicle segment, the SUV, will witness the arrival of more than 20 new models. Two iconic SUVs are all set to be reborn in modern avatars, while Mahindra’s Vision with the Vision range is set to intensify competition. In this article, we talk about the top 3 upcoming game-changers in the SUV category -

The iconic Sierra nameplate is all set to return in new avatar. This time around, the lifestyle SUV will be offered with both EV and ICE powertrains. It will be a 5-door SUV measuring around 4.3 meters in length. The new SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Victoris.
The Tata Sierra will retain its boxy shape with rugged design elements. Despite measuring 4.3 meters in length, the SUV offers a massive road presence and appears bigger than the competition. It will be offered with three engine choices - a 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 2.0L turbo diesel. The EV could be offered with 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The top-end variant could get a dual-motor AWD setup.

Renault has officially announced to launch the third generation Duster SUV in India in Q1, 2026. The new SUV is based on the CMF-B modular platform, which will also underpin the upcoming Nissan Tekton SUV. Production of the new Duster is expected to commence soon at Renault’s Chennai based plant.
The new Duster will be powered by a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine with manual and dual-clutch automatic gearbox choices. The entry-level variant could also get a 1.5L NA petrol or a 1.0L 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine. There will be a hybrid version, which is likely to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027.

Mahindra has recently showcased 4 new concepts, called Vision X, Vision S, Vision T and Vision SXT. The Vision S based compact SUV will be the first model to launch, as its testing has already been started. The new model will be the smallest member in the Scorpio family, and will sit under 4 meters in length.
The new SUV will be based on the new NU.IQ modular platform, which is compatible with ICE and electric powertrains. The SUV will initially come with ICE and hybrid powertrains, while its EV version could join the line-up at a later stage. The production-ready model is expected to be revealed sometime in 2026, while its sales could begin in Q1, 2027.
