Toyota Plans 5 New SUVs and MPVs for India - Land Cruiser FJ, Corolla Cross & More

Toyota plans 5 new SUVs and MPVs Hycross, Land Cruiser FJ among key launches Big India investment and expansion underway

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is getting ready to expand its lineup in India with a range of new SUVs and MPVs.

The focus is now shifting towards in-house models instead of badge-engineered cars from Maruti Suzuki. So far, this partnership has brought models like the Toyota Glanza, Toyota Hyryder, Toyota Rumion and Toyota Taisor.

Massive Investment and New Plants

Toyota is strengthening its position in India, which is now one of its top global markets.

The company has announced an investment of over USD 3 billion. It is also planning new manufacturing facilities in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Bengaluru to support future growth.

1. Affordable Innova Hycross Hybrid by 2027

Toyota Innova Crysta diesel is expected to be discontinued by 2027 due to stricter emission norms.

To replace it, Toyota is working on a lower-spec version of the Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid. This new variant will be more affordable and aimed at fleet buyers. It will likely come with fewer features to keep costs in check.

Toyota is also exploring flex-fuel technology for the Hycross, which can run on higher ethanol blends.

2. Electric MPV Based on Maruti Platform

Toyota is also planning an all-electric MPV based on an upcoming Maruti Suzuki model.

This three-row EV will help expand Toyota’s MPV lineup further. It is expected to compete with models like the BYD eMAX 7. The launch timeline is expected around 2027 or 2028.

3. New Land Cruiser FJ Coming in 2028

Toyota is expected to bring the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ to India by the end of 2028.

This smaller Land Cruiser will be based on a rugged platform similar to the Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Hilux.

It is likely to get petrol and hybrid options, as diesel may not be offered due to stricter norms. The model could also be exported from India to global markets.

4. Corolla Cross Back on Track

Toyota Corolla Cross is also being reconsidered for India.

Earlier, the plan was dropped due to low production feasibility. Now, it is expected to be produced locally and could launch by 2028 or 2029. It may be one of the first models to roll out from Toyota’s new facility.

5. Next-Gen Fortuner in the Works

Toyota is also working on the next-generation Toyota Fortuner.

The SUV is expected to continue with its 2.8-litre diesel engine, along with a mild-hybrid system. It will likely retain its ladder-frame construction, as it continues to be popular in its segment.
