Toyota Kirloskar Motor is getting ready for a major expansion in India. The company plans to set up new factories and also bring in new models in the coming years.

Big Investment Planned

Toyota will invest around Rs 18,000 crore in this expansion. Once all plants are up and running, India will become one of Toyota’s biggest production bases globally. These factories will also support exports to markets like the Middle East and Africa.

Toyota is also working on a new three-row SUV based on the Corolla lineup. This could be the next-gen version of the Toyota Corolla Cross, but with a bigger and more practical layout.

Hybrid and Plug-In Options Likely

The new SUV will be built on an updated TNGA-C platform. It is expected to come with hybrid and possibly plug-in hybrid options, which Toyota is already focusing on globally. Models like the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ could also benefit from this setup in the future.

Production Capacity to Go Up

Right now, Toyota produces about 3.4 lakh units annually in India. With the new plant at Bidadi, this will go up to around 4.4 lakh units.
