New Toyota Corolla Cross Could Be a Big Hit in India

Toyota Corolla Cross may finally launch in India Hybrid SUV could arrive by 2028-29 Bigger family-friendly version also possible

Toyota could finally bring the Corolla Cross SUV to India in the coming years. After staying uncertain for a long time, fresh reports suggest the company is once again moving ahead with the project for the Indian market.

The Corolla Cross is already sold in several international markets and sits between the C-HR and RAV4 in Toyota’s global SUV lineup. If launched in India, the SUV could become an important product for the brand, especially in the growing premium SUV segment.

Reports suggest the Corolla Cross may arrive in India around 2028 or 2029.

Could Sit Below Innova Hycross

The Corolla Cross is expected to be positioned below the Toyota Innova Hycross in India.

Globally, the SUV measures 4,460 mm in length and comes with a five-seater layout. It is based on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform, which is known for offering better comfort, safety and driving experience.

Pricing is expected to stay well under Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), which could make it attractive for buyers looking for a premium SUV with hybrid technology.

Toyota May Bring a Bigger Version for India

Earlier, Toyota was reportedly working on a longer three-row version of the Corolla Cross for markets like India.

The project was internally known as “Toyota 340 D” and was initially expected to enter production in 2026. However, the plan was later cancelled.

Now, reports suggest Toyota could still introduce a long-wheelbase version in the future. The next-generation Corolla Cross may be developed with both standard and extended wheelbase options from the beginning.

If that happens, the larger version could offer a third row of seats for family buyers in India.

Comfort and Features Could Be a Big Focus

Toyota is likely to develop the India-spec Corolla Cross with local customer needs in mind.

The SUV may get features such as ventilated seats, a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, wireless charging and premium upholstery.

Reports also suggest Toyota may offer “boss mode” functionality, allowing rear passengers to adjust the front passenger seat for extra legroom.

These features could help the Corolla Cross appeal to both city buyers and family users.

Hybrid Engine Expected

Toyota is expected to offer the Corolla Cross with petrol and strong hybrid powertrains in India.

Reports suggest both versions may use a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine to keep costs under control. The hybrid version is likely to become the main attraction, especially as more Indian buyers are now choosing fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles.

Toyota may also look at introducing a flex-fuel version later depending on future demand and government policies.

Production Could Happen in Maharashtra

The Corolla Cross could be produced at Toyota’s upcoming manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.

The new plant is being set up in the Bidkin Industrial Area near Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and is expected to start operations in the first half of 2029.

Toyota has already confirmed that the first vehicle from this plant will be a new SUV.

This has added more weight to reports about the Corolla Cross launch.
