Right-hand drive Land Cruiser FJ spied in Bangkok India launch expected in 2028 Gets a petrol engine with part-time 4WD system
We informed you earlier that Toyota will launch the new Land Cruiser FJ Lifestyle SUV in the Japanese market by May 2026. The SUV will be introduced in ASIAN markets, including India. In fact, the new right-hand drive Toyota Land Cruiser FJ has been caught testing for the first time on the roads of Bangkok. While Toyota has already revealed the new SUV in production form, the test vehicle is fully covered in thick cloth.
The new Land Cruiser FJ will be the only model in the Land Cruiser lineup to be based on the ladder-frame chassis. It will sit below the Fortuner in Toyota India line-up and will measure 4575mm in length, 1855mm in width and 1960mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2580mm. It is the tallest model in the Land Cruiser family, featuring a tall and boxy profile. The SUV offers a strong road presence.

Despite covered in thick camouflage, the new Land Cruiser FJ will look identical to the model revealed last year. It features the signature C-shaped daytime running lamps, a rugged bumper, squared-off wheel arches, conventional door handles, and usable roof rails. The rear has a flatter profile with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel and a massive bumper, and C-shaped tail-lamps.
The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ has a luggage carrying capacity of 765-litres. True to its identity, the new FJ will have a ground clearance of 215mm and an excellent approach and departure angle. It will come with an all-black interior, featuring a large centrally-mounted touchscreen infotainment unit, a 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, round AC vents, a digital driver’s display, leatherette seats, and others. The Land Cruiser FJ will have multiple airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera and LEVEL 2 ADAS.
The new Land Cruiser FJ will be powered by a 2.7-litre 2TR-FE inline 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 163hp and 246Nm of torque. The engine will be paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox along with a part-time 4WD setup. The SUV could also get a 2.8L turbo diesel engine with a micro-hybrid setup.
The India-spec model could also get a strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid option. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual unit. A part-time 4WD system will come as standard.
The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be launched in our market by 2028. It could be the first product to roll out from Toyota’s upcoming Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra. Estimated to be priced somewhere between Rs 25-35 lakh, the Land Cruiser FJ will come as a premium alternative to the Mahindra Thar Roxx.
