This Toyota SUV is Heading to India: Mahindra Thar Roxx Challenger
Toyota to launch Land Cruiser FJ by 2028 It will rival the Thar Roxx and Scorpio N
We reported earlier that Toyota is preparing to launch the Land Cruiser FJ, dubbed the “Baby Land Cruiser” in India. Designed as a rugged ladder-frame 4x4, the Land Cruiser FJ offers a combination of Toyota’s off-road heritage and practicality of a family car. This SUV will come with as a premium alternative to the likes of the Mahindra Scorpio N and the Thar Roxx.
Platform & Proportions
The Land Cruiser FJ is built on Toyota’s IMV ladder frame platform that also underpins the Fortuner and the Hilux. The SUV prioritises structural durability and off-road capability. It measures 4575mm in length, 1855mm in width and 1960mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2580mm. The SUV has a 5.5-metre turning radius, making tight off-road trail navigation and parking easy.
The SUV’s key design elements include a flat bonnet, C-shaped LED daytime running lights, thick C-pillars, flared wheel arches and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
Powertrain Options
The SUV is expected to be offered with two powertrain options, including a 2.8L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel and 2.7L petrol. The 2.8L diesel engine produces 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque, paired to either a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The SUV will come with a Part-Time 4WD with Low-Range Transfer Case. By leveraging Toyota’s 48V mild-hybrid diesel setup, the Land Cruiser FJ delivers high low-end torque while improving fuel efficiency during bumper to bumper traffic.
Cabin Layout
The Land Cruiser FJ will come with horizontal dashboard layout dominated by a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment unit and digital TFT cluster, and wireless Apple CarPlay. Critical off-road controls (4WD selector, differential locks, climate control) retain tactile buttons ans switches. The cabin is designed for adventure customisers, featuring factory mounting points for accessories like MOLLE storage panels, rock rails, roof racks and auxiliary power banks.
Expected Price and Launch Window
Estimated Price: Rs 25 lakh to Rs 35 lakh (Ex-Showroom)
Segment Positioning: it will be positioned below the Toyota Fortuner in the company’s line-up, and will come as a premium alternative to the likes of the Mahindra Thar Roxx and the Scorpio N.
