Volkswagen has officially announced to launch two new global products including the Golf GTI and the Tiguan R-Line in the Indian market in Q2, 2025. The exact launch date is yet to be announced, but the Volkswagen Golf GTI is most likely to arrive next month, that's April, 2025.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI will be a fully-imported model. In fact, the company is expected to sell only 250 units of the hot hatchback in India. Some Volkswagen dealers in India have already started accepting pre-orders for the hatchback.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI is hugely popular among car enthusiasts, thanks to its sporty and aggressive stance and performance. The new-gen model retains the signature Volkswagen design. The front fascia gets the signature Volkswagen grille that houses 'Volkswagen' logo, matrix LED headlights and an aggressive front bumper that houses honeycomb mesh pattern.
The VW Golf GTI rides on 18-inch 'Richmond' alloy wheels; however, customers will have the option to opt for the 19-inch wheels. It has sporty diffuser and dual-exhaust setup at the rear. There is a 'GTI' badge on the grille, fender and on the tailgate.
The new Volkswagen Golf GTI has an all-black interior scheme. It gets a simple yet functional dashboard layout and sport seats. GTI badge is added on the sporty 3-spoke steering wheel. The sporty hatchback has metallic pedals, GTI-specific digital climate control, automatic climate control, and wireless phone charging. The hot hatch gets a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with smartphone connectivity and connected car tech.
Powering the Volkswagen Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, which is claimed to offer sporty performance. This engine is capable of producing 245PS of power and a peak torque of 370Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The hatchback is capable of achieving 0-100kmph in mere 5.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250kmph.
Volkswagen Golf GTI will be a performance-oriented hatchback and won't have a direct rival in our market. Set to rival the Mini Cooper S, the new Golf GTI is expected to be priced around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
