7-Seater Kia Sorento to Get AWD Setup in India

New Sorento will be launched on September 4, 2026 It will be offered with a strong hybrid petrol and a turbo diesel engine

The much-anticipated Kia Sorento full-size SUV will finally go on sale in the Indian market on September 4, 2026. Ahead of the official reveal, Kia has released a new teaser confirming the availability of the AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) drivetrain on the Sorento SUV. It will be the first ICE-powered Kia model in our market to offer AWD capabilities. Additionally, the three-row SUV will also get Live Ten AI, an AI-powered in-car voice assistant feature.

The 2026 Kia Sorento will be offered with strong hybrid petrol and diesel engines in India. The SUV is likely to get a 1.6-litre turbo petrol strong hybrid setup paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This system offers a combined power and torque output of 238hp and 380Nm of torque.

The diesel version will get the tried & tested 2.2-litre engine that also powers the Carnival. This engine is capable of producing 202hp and 440Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to wheels via an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. In the global markets, Kia is offering AWD setup with both strong hybrid and diesel powertrains, and the same could be offered with the India-spec Sorento. The SUV will also come with multiple terrain modes - Snow, Mud and Sand.

Talking about the Kia’s Live Get AI feature, it allows driver to have natural conversations with the in-car AI agent. The AI agent obeys commands from driver and operate certain car functions and features on demand.

The India-spec Kia Sorento is likely to be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. The six-seater model will have captain seats in second-row, while the 7-seater model will have a 60:40 split second-row bench seat.

The new Sorento measures 4815mm in length, 1900mm in width and 1700mm in height with a wheelbase of 2815mm. The SUV will get dual 12.3-inch panoramic curved displays for infotainment and driver’s display.  In terms of features, the new 3-row SUV will get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charger, Bose sound system, dual-zone climate control, Heads-Up Display, LEVEL 2 ADAS, multiple airbags, traction control system, ESP, hill start assist and hill descent control, and a 360-degree surround view camera.

The new Sorento can be booked online or at authorised Kia dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 50,000. We expect the new SUV to price somewhere between Rs 30 lakh and 40 lakh. It will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and higher-spec Mahindra XUV 7XO.
