Next-gen Bayon likely to arrive in 2027 To be positioned between Exter and Venue
Hyundai is finally coming up with a dedicated crossover-SUV to challenge the dominance of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx in the country. Codenamed BC4i CUB, the next-generation Hyundai Bayon has been spotted testing with a more SUV-esque silhouette than its predecessor. The 2027 India-spec model will be positioned between the micro SUV Exter and the compact SUV Hyundai Venue.
The latest spy images reveal a big departure from the “hunched” hatchback look. Instead, the new Hyundai Bayon carries a taller, boxier stance. The design is more aligned with Hyundai’s latest “Sensuous Sportiness” language.
- The SUV is expected to feature a split headlamp setup with “ice-cube” LED projector headlamps and a high-mounted LED daytime running lights strip.
- The next Hyundai Bayon is likely to feature newly designed 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. It will have chunky body cladding and functional roof rails, giving it the “rugged” SUV appeal Indian buyers crave.
- At the back, the SUV gets a sharply raked tailgate with a prominent integrated spoiler, newly designed connected LED tail-lights.
It is expected that the next-gen Hyundai Bayon will share cabin and its features with the new Venue. It is likely to get dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment system and a digital driver’s display. It is expected to get ventilated front seats, a 360-degree surround view camera and a dual-pane sunroof. Another big upgrade will be the addition of the radar-based ADAS suite with features like lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control and others.
The outgoing Hyundai Bayon is available with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that offers two states of tunes - 99hp and 118hp. The engine comes with a mild-hybrid system. According to the Korean media, the next-gen Bayon could get a proper hybrid powertrain.
The India-spec model could also get the tried & tested 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Venue and Grand i10 Nios. The SUV is expected to debut Hyundai’s new 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which is being developed to be “hybrid-ready”.
The new Hyundai Bayon will be designed for the buyer who finds the Exter too small but wants something more styling and “car-like” to drive. It will be positioned between the Exter and Venue, and likely to be priced around Rs 7 lakh to Rs 13 lakh.
