Hyundai to launch a new midsize SUV by October 2026 Duster hybrid first batch to arrive this Diwali
India’s midsize SUV landscape is all set to witness launch of two highly-anticipated models - the all-new Hyundai Bayon-based crossover and the Renault Duster Strong-Hybrid. Renault Duster Hybrid was officially announced in March 2026, and its bookings are temporarily stopped as the hybrid version has already been sold out for 2026 production cycle. On the flip side, Hyundai has announced to launch an all-new midsize SUV by festive season.
Hyundai Bayon
Hyundai has started testing its all-new midsize SUV on the Indian road. Scheduled to be launched around Diwali 2026, the new SUV is expected to be the next-generation Hyundai Bayon. The new model will be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and others. Internally codenamed BC4i, the new Hyundai Bayon is likely to measure around 4.2-4.3 metres in length. It will be positioned between the sub-4 metre Venue and the next-gen Creta, which will grow in size.
The upcoming Bayon is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 115hp and 144Nm of torque. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The SUV will also receive a CNG option, and could get an underbody CNG tank. It will be the first Hyundai model over 4 metres in length to get a CNG option.
Renault Duster Hybrid
The upcoming Duster hybrid will feature a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with two electric motors - a 20bhp motor working as a starter-generator and a 49bhp traction motor that drives the wheels. The system is further assisted by a 1.4kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a combined power and torque of 160bhp and 172Nm, respectively, making it more powerful than the hybrid version of the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. The SUV also comes with a multi-mode clutchless automatic gearbox.
The SUV is expected to return a certified fuel economy of around 20-22kmpl. It will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hybrid. It will also be positioned against the upcoming next-generation Hyundai Creta Hybrid and Kia Seltos Hybrid.
