Hyundai Bayon launch by March 2026 First Hyundai above 4 meters to get a CNG powertrain

Hyundai is actively testing 3 new SUVs, including a new compact electric SUV, next-generation Creta and an all-new SUV, rumoured to be the next-gen Hyundai Bayon, Hyundai has already confirmed that the Bayon will be launched before the end of this financial year, by March 2027. A heavily camouflaged test mule of the upcoming SUV was recently spotted undergoing real-world benchmarking runs on Indian roads.

The prototype was caught alongside its primary market target: the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. This further confirms that Hyundai is fine-tuning its upcoming midsize SUV to take on its rivals.

Hyundai Bayon - Key Details

The next-generation Bayon will grow in size, and will measure around 4.2 metres in length. It will be positioned right between the Hyundai Venue and the Creta. The spy images reveal that the SUV carries a taller, boxier stance, and its design is more aligned with Hyundai’s latest “Sensuous Sportiness” language. However, the spy images reveal that the Maruti Victoris is longer and taller than the Bayon.

Codenamed BC4i, the new Hyundai Bayon is expected to be based on the new-gen K1 platform that underpins the Hyundai Venue. It will come with a split headlamp setup with “ice-cube” LED projector headlamps with a high-mounted LED daytime running lamps. It gets a new 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, chunky body cladding, functional roof rails, sharply raked tailgate with prominent integrated spoiler, and new connected LED tail-lights.

Feature-Loaded Interior

The Bayon will be one of the most feature-loaded SUVs in our market. It will come with a tech-laden interior along with adaptive driver assistance system with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist and others. Hyundai is following Maruti Suzuki’s strategy of offering two mid-sized SUVs, the Victoris and the Grand Vitara.

First Hyundai Midsize SUV with CNG Powertrain

Internally codenamed the Bc4i, the new Hyundai Bayon SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine along with a CNG powertrain with a dual-cylinder setup. It will be the first Hyundai measuring above 4 meters to get a CNG powertrain.

The other engine options could include a 1.5L NA petrol engine that produces 114bhp and 144Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. Adding to it, the SUV could also get a 1.5L turbo petrol or an all-new 1.2L turbo petrol engine. A diesel derivative could also join the line-up.
