Mahindra to Launch Two Distinct Sub-4m Compact SUVs

Inside’s sub-4-metre compact SUV segment accounts for majority of all passenger SUV sales. To further strengthen its position, Mahindra will introduce two individual sub-4m compact SUVs: the Vision X and the Vision S. Built on Mahindra’s NU_IQ modular architecture, these models share engineering and a segment-leading 2665mm wheelbase. These two SUVs will feature distinct top-hats and exterior styling tuned to separate buyer personalities. 

NU_IQ Modular Platform

The new SUVs will be based on the NU_IQ platform, which is a flexible monocoque architecture compatible with multiple body styles, drivetrains and fuel setups. The platform supports Internal Combustion Engines (Petrol & Turbo-Diesel), Strong Hybrids, and Battery Electric Powertrains (BEV). 

Mahindra reveals that the platform supports 2665mm wheelbase across models. Thanks to the segment-leading wheelbase, Mahindra maximises interior knee room and legroom while maintaining an overall length under 4,000mm. Designed for front-wheel-drive (FWD) models, the architecture supports All-Wheel Drive (AWD) capabilities via an electrified rear axle setup. Adding to it, the platform supports up to 227mm of ground clearance accommodating rough roads and off-road conditions. 

Two Top Hats

The Vision X and Vision S compact SUVs come with distinct body styles, and will target different type of car buyers. The Vision X previews the next-gen XUV 3XO, while the Vision S is rumoured to be the smallest member of the Scorpio family. 

Vision X: this sleek, aerodynamic crossover comes with an urban coupe-like silhouette. It features flush door handles, X-shaped multi-slat grille, and an integrated rear roof spoiler. This modern crossover SUV targets tech-focused urban buyers looking for a modern design clubbed with premium and feature-loaded cabin. It will rival the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue. 

Vision S: this SUV comes with boxy, upright stance with ‘mini-Scorpio’ and off-road styling cues. It gets a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, vertically stacked LED tail-lights, squared-off front fascia and flared wheel arches. This model will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV, targeting outdoor enthusiasts and buyers looking for a compact, rugged utility vehicle. It will rival the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the upcoming Renault Bridger. 

Key Features

The NU_IQ offers flat-floor layout, which enables the Vision X and Vision S to offer spacious 5-seater seating capacity.  Both SUVs will get 10.25-inch HD touchscreen display and 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster running next-generation AdrenoX software. 

The SUVs will come with modern features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging, and 65W USB-C fast charging ports. For safety and security, the SUVs will get 6 airbags, ESP, 360-degree camera with a blind-view monitor, and LEVEL 2 ADAS.
