The upcoming Mahindra XEV 9S electric SUV has been making waves with its impressive features and powerful performance. Expected to launch on November 27, the XEV 9S is set to be one of Mahindra's most exciting electric vehicles.

Apart from design and features, one of the most interesting aspects of this new Mahindra electric SUV is its battery and range. Here’s everything you need to know about the Mahindra XEV 9S's battery and range.
Mahindra XEV 9S is expected to share its battery system with the XEV 9e and BE 6, using a flexible and efficient power source to drive its performance. The SUV will offer two battery options:
- A 59 kWh battery
- A larger 79 kWh battery
Both of these batteries are lithium iron phosphate (LFP) units, which are known for being durable, long-lasting, and safer than some other battery chemistries. These LFP battery packs are also more energy-efficient, making them a good fit for an electric SUV that needs to deliver both power and range.

When it comes to range, the Mahindra XEV 9S is expected to impress. Here’s the breakdown of the expected range for each battery pack:
59 kWh pack: Claimed range of 542 km on a full charge.
79 kWh pack: Claimed range of 656 km on a full charge.
In real-world conditions, especially in city driving, the range could be slightly lower. However, you can still expect the XEV 9S to cover over 450 km in metro traffic with ease. A standard-range variant will also be available for those who don't need to travel long distances regularly.
The Mahindra XEV 9S isn’t just about range; it also promises impressive performance. The SUV will offer different motor configurations depending on the variant chosen:
- Rear-wheel-drive (RWD) for base models.
- All-wheel-drive (AWD) for higher trims.
The SUV will pack a powerful motor setup, with the 59 kWh version producing 231 PS and 380 Nm of torque, while the 79 kWh version will push out 286 PS and the same 380 Nm of torque. With these configurations, the XEV 9S will be quick off the line, accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in just around 7 seconds. This makes it one of the quickest three-row SUVs in India.
Charging times are always a key consideration for electric vehicle buyers, and the Mahindra XEV 9S does not disappoint here. Thanks to fast-charging capabilities, the battery can be charged from 20% to 100% in just 20 minutes using a DC fast charger. This means less time spent waiting for the car to charge and more time on the road, making the XEV 9S a convenient option for daily commutes and long trips alike.
Mahindra XEV 9S is built on the INGLO platform, which is designed to support multiple battery sizes and motor configurations. This platform allows Mahindra to offer a variety of powertrain options while maintaining efficiency and performance. The XEV 9S will share this platform with other Mahindra models like the XEV 9e and BE 6, making it a part of an exciting new era of Mahindra’s electric vehicles.
