Mahindra is currently selling the XUV400 as its only electric vehicle in the Indian market. This model failed to generate volumes for the homegrown automaker. Now, the company is looking at its upcoming Born-electric range to grab some shares in the EV market which is currently dominated by Tata Motors. Mahindra will soon introduce 3 all-electric SUVs based on the BE.05, XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 concepts.
It is reported that the Mahindra BE.05 based coupe SUV will be the brand's first Born-electric SUV. Likely to debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January, the BE.05 will be the brand's answer to the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki EVX. The other two models, the XUV.e8 and the XUV.e9 Coupe SUV will also be launched in 2025.
The Mahindra XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 are basically the electric versions of the XUV700 3-row SUV. The XUV.e8 will be a 3-row electric SUV, while the XUV.e9 will be a 5-seater SUV Coupe version of the XUV700. In order to create an instant impact, Mahindra would aim to price the new Born electric SUVs aggressively. The company had used similar strategy with the Scorpio N, Thar, XUV700 and Thar Roxx. All these models were initially introduced at a very aggressive price tag, undercutting most of its rivals.
The upcoming Mahindra BE 05, XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 (XUV700 Coupe) will be based on the brand's new skateboard architecture, called the INGLO. Except for the Mahindra XUV.e8, the BE.05 and XUV.e9 SUV Coupes are expected to be offered with rear-wheel-drive setup. The XUV.e8 will be an AWD SUV and will target different set of audience.
The Mahindra XUV.e9 and XUV.e8 will come with three-screen display for infotainment and instrument panel. There will be a dedicated screen for the front co-passenger. All three screens will be 12.3-inch in size and have liquid optically clear adhesive (LOCA) bonding and a Oleophobic (anti-smudge) coating. It will come with Level 2 ADAS, multiple airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree surround view camera, and others as standard safety features.
