Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG spy shots reveal twin cylinders fitted beneath the boot floor. The SUV gets a dedicated CNG/Petrol switch and retains its familiar exterior design. Expected to feature a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, the XUV 3XO CNG could cost below Rs 10 lakh.
Mahindra is getting ready to add a CNG option to the XUV 3XO lineup. Ahead of its launch, the SUV has been spotted in new spy shots, revealing details about its CNG cylinder placement, interior and features. The biggest highlight is the twin-cylinder setup placed beneath the boot floor, which could help free up space for luggage. The spy shots also show a dedicated CNG/Petrol switch inside the cabin, while the overall design remains similar to the regular XUV 3XO.
Here are five key features of the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG.
The most interesting detail revealed by the spy shots is the placement of the two CNG cylinders. They sit side by side beneath the boot floor and are held in place with metal straps. The connecting pipes and valves are also visible in the images. This setup is similar to the one seen on the Tata Nexon i-CNG. Instead of taking up a large part of the luggage area, the cylinders are placed underneath the boot floor, which could make it easier to carry bags and other items. Mahindra has not yet shared the cylinder capacity or the exact boot space of the XUV 3XO CNG. These details will be important in understanding how practical the new version will be for everyday use.

The latest spy shots also give us a look at the cabin. A dedicated CNG/PETROL button can be seen below the driver's-side AC vent, next to the headlamp levelling control. The rest of the dashboard appears unchanged, with the same light-coloured lower section and gloss-black trim around the AC vent. The switch is a small addition, but it confirms that the SUV will let drivers use both petrol and CNG. More details about how the system works are expected to be revealed closer to the launch.
The XUV 3XO CNG does not appear to get any major design changes. The test vehicle features dual-tone alloy wheels, ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, and the same headlamp and daytime running light (DRL) design seen on the regular SUV. This means buyers can expect the CNG version to look much like the petrol model, rather than a completely different variant. The familiar styling could also appeal to buyers who want the benefits of CNG without giving up the look of the standard XUV 3XO.
A sunroof is another feature spotted on the test vehicle. However, the images appear to show a single-pane unit, while Mahindra's official teaser has indicated that a panoramic sunroof will be available in the XUV 3XO CNG range. For reference, Mahindra offers a single-pane sunroof with the REVX M(O), while the panoramic unit is available with the REVX Edge (O). It remains to be seen which CNG variants will get these features. Mahindra has not yet confirmed the complete variant-wise equipment list.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG is expected to use the 1.2-litre turbocharged MPFI petrol engine. In petrol form, this engine produces around 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. However, these figures are for the petrol version. Mahindra has not yet announced the power and torque figures when running on CNG, or the certified mileage. The spy shots show a manual CNG variant, but the final transmission options are still unknown. Buyers will have to wait for the official announcement for details about performance and fuel efficiency.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG is expected to start at below Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The final price will depend on the variants and features offered. The new version could be a useful option for buyers who want a compact SUV but are looking to keep fuel expenses in check. The twin-cylinder layout could make it more practical than a conventional CNG setup, although the actual boot space is yet to be confirmed.
