Maruti Suzuki is preparing an all-new mid-sized SUV, which is rumoured to be called the Victoris (Escudo). Internally codenamed Y17, the Maruti Escudo will be positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara. The company will also launch the new Suzuki e Vitara electric SUV in the country by September 2025.
The new Suzuki Escudo mid-sized SUV will be sold through ARENA dealership network. It will target buyers looking to buy a mid-sized SUV bigger than the Brezza, and are not inclined towards Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. We believe that the new Escudo is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 9.75 lakh to Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom.
The new Maruti Suzuki Escudo is likely to be launched during festive season, around Diwali. A possible launch around September-October 2025 can’t be ignored.
The new Escudo 5-seater SUV is expected to be offered with the same set of engines that are offered with the Grand Vitara. It is likely to be offered with a 1.5L NA petrol engine that produces 101.65 hp and 139 Nm of torque. In the CNG mode, the engine produces 86.79 hp and 121.5Nm of torque. Transmission choices includes a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
The SUV will also get the Toyota’s TNGA, 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder engine with a strong hybrid tech (Electric Motor and a Small Lithium-ion battery). The hybrid engine offers 91 bhp and 122 Nm of peak torque. The electric motor offers a maximum power and torque output of 79bhp and 141Nm, respectively. The Grand Vitara with the same hybrid engine offers a certified fuel economy of 27.97kmpl.
The new Maruti Y17 SUV was initially planned to be a 7-seater SUV; however, there is a shift in plan. The SUV will be a 5-seater SUV and will come as a more mass-market offering in the mid-sized SUV category. It will be longer than the Grand Vitara, which measures 4,345mm in length. The new Escudo will be based on the same Suzuki’s Global-C platform that underpins the Grand Vitara and Brezza. This increase in length will help Suzuki engineers to create more space in the second row and a bigger boot.
Maruti Suzuki will also share the new SUV with its strategic partner Toyota. The Japanese automaker will also launch its own version of the SUV sometime in early 2026. Read more...
The new Maruti Suzuki Victoris (Escudo) 5-seater SUV is likely to be offered with the same set of features that are available in the Brezza and Grand Vitara. The feature-list could include a larger touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital driver’s display for hybrid version, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger and ventilated front seats.
