Honda City hybrid delivers 27.26kmpl Hyryder and Grand Vitara hybrid returns 27.97kmpl Honda's hybrid engine is more powerful than Toyota's engine
We reported earlier that a handful of car manufacturers, including Kia, Hyundai, Mahindra, Renault and Volkswagen are planning to launch their respective hybrid cars in the Indian market. This clearly indicates that the hybrid demand is on rise amid sluggish EV sales. Currently, Toyota, Maruti Suzuki and Honda are selling hybrid cars in our market.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are equipped with a strong hybrid engine. Both models are equipped with Toyota’s 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder TNGA hybrid engine. On the other hand, Honda is offering the City with its globally popular 1.5L, 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine with e:HEV hybrid tech. Both these powertrains are highly fuel efficient and offer a mileage of over 27kmpl.

The new Honda City hybrid is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 27.26 kmpl, which is quite impressive for a 4-cylinder petrol hybrid engine.
The Toyota Hyryder and Grand Vitara hybrids are the most fuel efficient SUVs in its segment. Both models offer an ARAI certified mileage of 27.97kmpl.

The new City hybrid engine comprising 98bhp, 1.5-litre petrol that runs on a more efficient ‘Atkinson cycle’, which is aided by two electric motors - one work as generator and another work as a traction motor. The electric motor puts out a strong 109bhp, and the maximum usable power is 126bhp. The maximum combined torque output stands at 253Nm.

The Toyota’s 1.5L 3-cylinder engine offers a maximum power and torque output of 91bhp and 122Nm, respectively. The combined power output stands at 114bhp. In the hybrid mode, the maximum power and torque output stands at 80bhp and 141Nm, respectively.
