Six new 7-seater SUVs from major carmakers launching by 2027. India’s 7-seater vehicles sales grew 15.2% in April 2026.
The 7-seater segment is booming in India. In April 2026, a total of 84,259 units of three-row vehicles were sold in the country, marking a 15.2% YoY growth over the same month of the previous year. This momentum is likely to continue with several new models ready to hit Indian roads in the coming months.
India’s top 6 carmakers, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Kia and Toyota, are preparing a range of new 7-seater SUVs, all slated to arrive by 2027. Take a brief look at the key details of these upcoming family SUVs.
Aiming to expand its SUV portfolio, Maruti Suzuki will introduce a three-row premium SUV by the end of this year. The model is expected to be based on the Grand Vitara, sharing platform, powertrain, features and design elements. However, it will be longer and more spacious than its younger sibling. Upon launch, the 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara might carry a different nameplate.

Similarly, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is testing a 7-seater version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which is essentially the rebadged Maruti Grand Vitara. The model is likely to look largely identical to its 5-seater sibling and is expected to come with the same 1.5L petrol mild hybrid and strong hybrid powertrain. Inside, it will feature a three-row seat configuration along with some additional features.
Mahindra is gearing up to launch the Scorpio N facelift in the coming months. The SUV is expected to receive minimal design changes and new colour options. Inside, the SUV might get a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new digital driver’s display, redesigned centre console and new features. The existing 2.0L petrol and 2.2L diesel engines are likely to be carried forward.
The Tata Safari EV is set to hit showrooms during this year’s Diwali season. The EV will be based on the Acti.ev+ platform and feature Tata’s new TiDAL architecture enabling OTA updates, centralized computing, 5G connectivity, a 540 degree camera view and enhanced AI-driven safety. It’s expected to share 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs with the Tata Harrier EV.

Hyundai is working on a new three-row SUV for India, codenamed Ni1i. This SUV will sit above the Alcazar and below the Tucson in the company’s product lineup, and take on the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. The new Hyundai Ni1i will be one of the brand’s first hybrid offerings and will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Talegaon facility.
Kia India will introduce a Sorento-based three-row SUV in India sometime next year. Globally, the SUV is available with a 1.6L turbo petrol hybrid powertrain, delivering 227bhp and 350Nm. In India, the Kia Sorento could be offered with an electrified version of the 1.5L petrol engine. When launched, this 7-seater SUV will take on the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, and Volkswagen Tayron R-Line.
