Toyota’s New 7-Seater SUV Taking Shape – Hybrid, AWD & New Features

Toyota Hyryder 7-seater launch expected by early 2027. The SUV might get AWD, hybrid powertrain and premium features.

The Toyota Hyryder is Toyota’s first midsize SUV in India, and is currently the brand’s best-selling rebadged model derived from Maruti Suzuki. Despite sharing its Global C platform and powertrains with the Maruti Grand Vitara, the Hyryder has established its own brand value in the segment. The Japanese automaker is now working on a three-row version of the SUV, which has been spotted testing several times. It’s expected to launch by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

Design Highlights

Spy shots suggest that the 7-seater Toyota Hyryder will share a close resemblance with its 5-seater version. However, it’s expected to feature a slightly revised front grille, a redesigned bumper, tweaked airdams, newly-designed alloy wheels and sleeker LED taillamps. Compared to the standard Hyryder, the extended version will be longer and have a more spacious cabin to accommodate an additional row of seats.

Interior & Features

While the interior details of the Toyota Hyryder 7-seater are still under the wraps, it’s expected to offer a few more features over the 5-seater model. It might get a larger touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display. Other expected features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, multi-colour ambient lighting, an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, HUD (head-up display) and more.

For safety provision, the upcoming Toyota SUV could offer six airbags as standard along with a tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto hold and ADAS (advanced driver assistance system).

Powertrain Options

The engine options might also be sourced from the 5-seater Hyryder. The three-row SUV is expected to come with 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol mild hybrid and 1.5L strong hybrid powertrains, delivering power worth 103PS with 137Nm and 116PS with 141Nm, respectively. A FWD (front-wheel drive) system will come as standard, while the AWD (all-wheel drive) setup will be exclusively available with the petrol mild hybrid powertrain.

The 7-seater Toyota Hyryder could also be offered with a 1.5L petrol-CNG powertrain that’s good enough for 88PS and 121.5Nm. Transmission choices might include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic, and an e-CVT (single-speed) for the strong hybrid version.
