Maruti Suzuki India is getting ready to enter the electric vehicle space with the launch of the e Vitara next month. This electric SUV will be the brand’s first EV for India. After this, the company is already working on its second electric model - a Maruti Suzuki electric MPV that is expected to arrive in late 2026.
Internally known as the Maruti YMC electric MPV, this new model will mark Maruti’s entry into the electric MPV segment and expand its EV portfolio beyond SUVs.

As per reports, the New Maruti electric MPV could go on sale around September 2026. While the company has not officially confirmed the launch date, the timeline suggests that Maruti is planning a phased EV rollout in India. So far, no test mule of the MPV has been spotted, indicating that road testing may begin later this year.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki electric MPV is expected to be based on a derivative of the 27PL skateboard platform. This born-electric architecture has been jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota and also underpins the upcoming e Vitara. The flexible platform is designed to support different body styles, including SUVs and MPVs.
While official powertrain details are not available yet, the Maruti YMC electric MPV is likely to share key components with the e Vitara. This means it could get 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options. For reference, the larger 61 kWh battery offers a claimed range of up to 543 km on a single charge.
The electric MPV is expected to use a front-wheel-drive setup, with the electric motor also sourced from the e Vitara. Sharing components will help Maruti keep costs under control and price the vehicle competitively.
Once launched, the New Maruti electric MPV is expected to compete with models like the Kia Carens Clavis EV. It will be Maruti Suzuki’s fifth MPV by then, strengthening the brand’s already strong presence in the MPV segment.
Maruti Suzuki is currently a leader in this space, thanks to the high-selling Ertiga, which is widely used for both private and commercial purposes.
Unlike the Ertiga and XL6, which see high commercial demand, the Maruti Suzuki electric MPV is expected to target private buyers. The YMC EV is likely to sit above the Ertiga and XL6 in terms of pricing and positioning.
Buyers can expect a modern design, a premium cabin and a feature-rich interior, making it a more lifestyle-oriented MPV.
With the e Vitara launch just around the corner and the Maruti YMC electric MPV lined up for 2026, Maruti Suzuki is clearly preparing for a steady expansion in India’s growing electric vehicle market.
