New Land Cruiser FJ to reveal in Japan in Feb 2026 It will be based on the Shortened IMV-0 platform The SUV is likely to be launched in Thailand in 2026 Petrol, hybrid and diesel versions are likely on offer
It is no secret that Toyota is developing an all-new lifestyle SUV, which will be the smallest and most affordable model under the Land Cruiser nameplate. Rumoured to be called the Land Cruiser FJ or FJ Cruiser, the new SUV will mainly target the Asian markets. A new Japanese media report claims that the new SUV will be released in February 2026; however, Toyota is yet to make an official statement on the same.
European media reports claim that Toyota will introduce an all-new lifestyle SUV with an electric powertrain by 2028. It is expected that the Japanese brand is preparing two different versions of the SUV, one for Europe and the other for Asia. The Asian-spec model is most likely to be offered with hybrid and diesel powertrains.
The new FJ Cruiser is reportedly to be based on a shortened version of the IMV-0 platform that underpins the Hilux Champ. The SUV will be revealed in Japan in February 2026; however, some media reports claim that the SUV will first launch in Thailand.
The patent images leaked on the Internet reveals that the FJ Cruiser will carry a boxy, utilitarian shape. It will have strong front fenders, thick C-pillars, and a vertical rear end with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. It is reportedly to measure around 4.4 meters in length and a wheelbase of 2,580mm. The SUV is likely to have a water wading capacity of 800mm.
The new Toyota lifestyle SUV is most likely to share the cabin layout with the Hilux Champ, but it will be more modern and feature-loaded. It is likely to offer improved fit and finish along with improved NVH levels. The SUV will have off-road equipment along with a 360-degree camera, which will also capture images of the area under the car.
The new Toyota FJ Cruiser lifestyle SUV will come with a full-time 4WD 4-wheel drive system that distributes torque to the front and rear wheels at a ratio of 40:60. It is most likely to get a centre differential and a torsion LSD rear axle for improved driving performance on rough road. The SUV will have multiple driving modes, such as ECO/NORMAL and Sport.
It is expected to be powered by a 2.7L, 4-cylinder 2TR-FE petrol engine that produces 161bhp and 246Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV could also get a 2.0L petrol hybrid engine, which we have seen on the Innova Hycross hybrid. The diesel version is likely to get a tried and tested 2.0L turbo unit.
