Toyota has recently revealed the prototype of its upcoming and smallest member of the Land Cruiser family, called the Land Cruiser FJ (Freedom & Joy). The new baby Land Cruiser or we call it the mini Fortuner, will make its public debut at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025, which is starting on October 30, 2025.
Toyota has confirmed that the new Land Cruiser FJ will mainly target the Asian markets, and its Japan launch is scheduled for mid 2026. It is early to comment whether the new SUV will arrive in our market or not.
Most of the Land Cruisers on sale are based on the Toyota’s TNGA-F platform, which is a body-on-frame architecture. This architecture underpins Toyota and Lexus luxurious vehicles. The FJ will be a mass-market lifestyle SUV and will target growing markets. The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ shares its platform with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Hilux.
It is based on the IMV-0 platform, which is a modified version of the Fortuner’s IMV-0 platform. The new SUV sits between the Corolla Cross and the Fortuner, in terms of size. It measures 4,575mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,960mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,580mm. In fact, the wheelbase of the new FJ is significantly smaller than the Fortuner and the Land Cruiser Prado. The new FJ has a ground clearance of 215.3mm, and has an excellent approach angle of 31 degrees.

Despite smaller in size, the Toyota FJ manages to look as tough as bigger Land Cruisers. It features an upright stance and rugged design elements. The front has a rectangular grille in gloss black that also houses ‘TOYOTA’ motif at the centre. It has C-shaped LED DRLs, and a chunky bumper that houses fog lamps and a silver skid plate.
The SUV has boxy silhouette, featuring flared fenders, flared wheel arches, prominent black cladding and a flatter roof with usable roof rails. At the back, the FJ has a tailgate mounted spare wheel, a vertically stacked LED tail-lights, and a chunky bumper.

The new Toyota FJ comes with all-black interior, which appears functional as well as practical. It has a large centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment unit, a 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, round AC vents on either sides of the dash, and a digital driver’s display. Controls for AC, gear selector and 4WD dial are placed on the lower part of the central console.
The SUV gets leatherette seats, a large armrest and grab handles on the pillars. It will have multiple airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera and LEVEL 2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
The new Land Cruiser FJ will be powered by a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 163PS and 246Nm of torque. A six-speed ECT gearbox sending the power to all-4 wheels via Toyota’s 4-wheel-drive system.
