Next-gen Kia Sonet spied Launch expected in 2027 Based on new K1 platform
We reported earlier that Kia will launch the second generation Sonet compact SUV in the Indian market in 2027. Internally codenamed QY2E, the next-gen Kia Sonet has been spotted testing for the first time in India. Spotted model is heavily covered in thick cloth, but it still reveals some design details.
First launched in 2020, the Kia Sonet has been one of the best-sellers for the Korean brand in India. The company had launched the facelifted Sonet in 2024, and is constantly posting a monthly sales of around 10,000 units. By 2027, the SUV will complete its lifecycle and will enter the next-generation.
The next-gen Kia Sonet will be based on the new K1 platform that also underpins the Kia Syros and the new Hyundai Venue. This platform is claimed to be stronger and will support modern tech and safety features. The new platform supports the latest electrical and electronics architecture, and compatible with OTA updates and remote diagnostics. Similar to the new Venue, the Kia Sonet is expected to secure 5 star safety rating from Bharat NCAP.

The new Kia Sonet will ride on a longer wheelbase, which will enable Kia to offer more cabin space and bigger boot. The new model will follow the new Hyundai Venue, which rides on a 20mm longer wheelbase at 2520m. This compact SUV offers more space inside the cabin, offering more knee room and shoulder room.
The next-gen Kia Sonet looks big, featuring a massive front bumper and Seltos-like front grille. It is hard to see the design elements, but the SUV is expected to split headlamp setup, LEVEL 2 ADAS, and ORVMs with integrated blinkers and camera module for ADAS and 360-degree camera. The roof gets flatter compared to the existing model, and looks wider and bolder.
The cabin of the new Sonet will receive massive upgrade, featuring larger 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and instrument console. It is expected to get camera and radar-based LEVEL 2 ADAS with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist and others.
The new Kia Sonet is expected to retain the existing engine options, including an 83bhp, 1.2L NA petrol, a 120hp, 1.0L 3-cylinder, turbo petrol, and a 116hp, 1.5L turbo diesel. Previous media reports claim that Kia is also developing a strong hybrid engine for the Sonet, which is likely to arrive sometime in 2028.
