Next-gen Nexon internally codenamed Garud Launch expected in 2027 Based on the modified X1 platform
Tata Motors has started working on the next-gen Nexon compact SUV, which will receive significantly revised styling and interior. Internally codenamed ‘Garud’, the next-gen Tata Nexon is expected to be launched in the Indian market in 2027.
First launched in 2027, the Tata Nexon has been the brand’s best-selling SUV for the homegrown automaker. Since 2017, the SUV received two major facelifts in 2020 and 2023. In order to remain consistent with its sales, Tata Motors will launch the second generation Nexon next year.
Previous media report claims that the next-gen Nexon will be based on the existing X1 platform, which was first introduced in late 1990s. However, the platform has been upgraded multiple times over the years. The platform is likely to receive massive structural changes. The SUV’s design and interior will be significantly upgraded in line with new Tata models.
The next-generation Tata Nexon is expected to be offered with petrol and CNG powertrains. It is early to comment whether the SUV will get a diesel engine or not. The current model gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which meet the BS6.2 emissions norms without the use of an expensive SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. However, this engine will need to be upgraded to meet the upcoming BS7 emission regulations which will be expensive for the Indian market.
The petrol version will continue to be offered with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. Not just the ICE, the new Nexon EV will also receive a significant upgrade. The new Nexon will continue to rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO and others in the sub-4 meter SUV.
