The much-anticipated new-gen Renault Duster is all set to go on sale in our market in March-April 2026. In fact, the company has started dispatching the new SUV to dealerships for customers preview. The SUV will initially arrive with two turbo petrol engines, and its hybrid model is scheduled to be launched by October 2026. Renault has also confirmed a new 7-seater SUV for the Indian market. It is most likely to be the 7-seater version of the Dacia Bigster or Renault Boreal.
Renault has already started testing the new 7-seater Bigster SUV on the Indian roads. It will be a 7-seater derivative of the all-new Duster, and will carry a new name and multiple changes to differentiate itself from the 5-seater SUV. This SUV was earlier spotted undergoing high altitude testing.
Renault officials have confirmed that the new Bigster 7-seater SUV will be launched before the end of FY27, by March 2027. A possible debut towards the end of this can’t be ignored. The 7-Seater Renault SUV will directly rival the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and the MG Hector Plus. It will be manufactured at Renault’s Chennai based manufacturing plant.
The new Bigster 7-seater SUV will be based on the same CMF-B modular platform, aka Renault Global Platform that underpins the new Duster. Going by the International-spec model, the SUV will measure around 4.6 meters in length and will have a wheelbase of around 2.74 meters. The French automaker will utilise the increased wheelbase and boot space to add third-row seat. The length of the India-spec model is also expected to be increased by another 100-200mm.
The SUV is expected to share its interior features and dashboard layout with the new Duster. In terms of features, the Bigster could get a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully-digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, powered driver’s seat and tailgate, and LEVEL 2 ADAS.
The India-spec Renault 7-Seater SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 163hp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic unit.
The hybrid version will get a 109bhp, 1.8L, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 49bhp electric motor, a 1.4kWh battery pack and a 20bhp, hybrid starter generator (HSG). The combined power and torque output stands at 160bhp and 172Nm, respectively.
