Skoda’s plan to bring back diesel engines to the Indian market has been put on hold. The carmaker was initially working on reintroducing diesel powertrains, starting with the new-generation Superb. Diesel options were once a strong part of Skoda’s India lineup, with models like the Superb and Kodiaq offering powerful and efficient TDI engines. However, these were phased out in the wake of the stricter BS6 emission norms.
The return of diesel was expected to begin with the Superb, followed by the Octavia diesel and Kodiaq RS. But due to uncertainties related to international trade agreements and global geopolitical factors, these launches have been delayed. There is no clear timeline for when Skoda’s diesel vehicles might make a comeback in the country.

Even as diesel models remain off the table for now, Skoda is pushing ahead with the launch of its performance-oriented Octavia RS in India. The new-generation Octavia RS will arrive as a fully imported unit (CBU) and is expected to launch around the festive season this year. It is likely to be priced above Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).

Powered by a 265hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, the Octavia RS shares its heart with the latest Volkswagen Golf GTI. Known for its engaging dynamics and sporty appeal, the Octavia RS already has a strong fan base in India, thanks to the success of the previous-gen RS 245. Despite its high price, the earlier 200 units of the RS 245 were sold out quickly, showcasing strong demand for such performance-focused models.
Skoda had been evaluating the reintroduction of diesel with the new Superb, and also considered bringing the Kodiaq RS and locally assembling the Octavia. But with changing global and domestic market conditions, those launches have been paused indefinitely. There is no official timeline on when — or if — these diesel variants will return to the Indian market.
While the Octavia RS will help build brand image, Skoda’s primary focus in India continues to be on locally produced models. The Kylaq SUV, which launched earlier this year, has already boosted the brand’s monthly sales to over 5,000 units. In March 2025, Skoda recorded its highest-ever monthly sales, hitting 7,422 units — a testament to the growing popularity of its current lineup.
