Tata Motors’ Shailesh Chandra expressed intent to expand the ‘Racer’ brand to upcoming cars, including electric vehicles. This comes after the Altroz Racer was launched last month and based on the public’s response it will decide whether to bring high-performance EVs. “We believe that this is a very niche category that we are experimenting with. If this works well, there will be a more holistic thinking on how we will deal with the performance brand,” Autocar India reported Chandra as saying. If this plan is realised, Tata will be India’s first EV mass manufacturer to have an electric sports division.

Showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Tata categorically stated that Altroz EV’s production avatar would resemble the 45X concept for the most part. Furthermore, the Altroz is second in line after Harrier to follow the brand’s Impact Design 2.0 styling language. Electrification is possible as it is built on the versatile ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture that can accommodate varying body types and is EV-compatible.

While technical specifications aren’t out, Tata earlier informed the electric Altroz to have a range of up to 300 kilometres with 0-80 per cent fast charging support in under 1 hour. The most anticipated addition to its electric stable will be the electrified Curvv, followed by Harrier and Safari e-SUVs next year.
