Tata showcases Sierra EV Sanctuary Edition. Built exclusively for wildlife sanctuaries. Open-top design with theatre seating and roll cage.
Tata Motors recently launched the Sierra EV in India at a starting price of Rs 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Alongside the production model, the company also showcased a unique version called the Sierra EV Sanctuary Edition. Unlike the standard SUV, this special model has been developed exclusively for wildlife sanctuaries and conservation centres and will not be sold to private buyers.
Here are the top highlights of the Tata Sierra EV Sanctuary Edition.
The biggest change is the open-top body. Tata has removed the roof along with the B, C and D pillars, while retaining the front A-pillars. This gives passengers an unobstructed view of their surroundings, making it suitable for wildlife safaris.
To improve safety, the SUV gets a sturdy roll cage with a flat roof mounted on top for basic protection against the sun and rain.

The Sanctuary Edition features a unique three-row theatre seating layout. The rear seats are positioned higher than the front row, allowing passengers to enjoy a better view during jungle safaris.
The third row can be accessed using a retractable ladder mounted at the rear.
Being an electric vehicle, the Sierra EV Sanctuary Edition can move through forests with very little noise. This makes it more suitable for wildlife parks compared to conventional diesel-powered safari vehicles.
The concept appears to be based on the Pure variant of the Sierra EV. It uses a 63 kWh battery pack paired with a single rear-mounted electric motor that produces 234 bhp and 340 Nm of torque. Tata claims a driving range of up to 565 km on a full charge.
The SUV receives several changes to make it more suitable for off-road use.
It gets additional body cladding, 18-inch alloy wheels, extra fog lamps, an electric winch, chunky side steps and rear flood lamps for improved visibility while reversing.
Another interesting change is the use of conventional pull-type door handles in place of the flush handles found on the standard Sierra EV. This allows quicker access during emergency situations.
While the exterior has been extensively modified, the front cabin remains largely unchanged. It carries over the dashboard, digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system from the standard Sierra EV.
The Sierra EV Sanctuary Edition is not a production model for retail customers. Tata Motors has confirmed that it is intended only for wildlife sanctuaries and conservation centres in India.
Although it won't reach showrooms, the concept demonstrates how the Sierra EV platform can be adapted for specialised applications beyond regular road use.
