Tata Sierra ICE launching this financial year It will be powered by a 1.5L turbo petrol engine Tata will first launch the Sierra EV The Sierra ICE will directly rival the Creta and Seltos
Tata Motors is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited Sierra lifestyle SUV, which is currently in final phase of testing. The Tata Sierra will first arrive in EV avatar, followed by an ICE-powered model. Both versions will be launched this financial year, most probably around festive season 2025.
Tata Motors will market the new-gen Sierra as a lifestyle SUV, and will be positioned between the Curvv and Harrier. We expect the new Tata Sierra ICE to cost somewhere between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom. At this price tag, the SUV will come as a premium alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and others.
Tata Motors had showcased the near-production version of the Sierra ICE at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The company has not revealed the platform on which the new lifestyle SUV is being manufactured. Tata could use the Curvv’s ATLAS modular platform or the Nexon’s X1 architecture.
The ATLAS modular architecture is compatible with different powertrains, including petrol and diesel. Tata claims that the ATLAS platform is engineered to offer genuine SUV capabilities, and can accommodate 4x4 setups. However, media reports suggest that the new Tata Sierra ICE will be a front-wheel-drive SUV.
The Tata Sierra ICE version will be offered with both petrol and diesel fuel options. It will mark the debut of Tata’s 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, which was revealed at the 2024 Auto Expo. This engine is capable of producing 167bhp and 280Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT.
The diesel version is most likely to get a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo unit that powers the Safari and Harrier. Paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic, the diesel engine produces 167bhp and 350Nm of torque. The lower-spec variants could also get a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine that is good for 118bhp and 250Nm of torque. It can be paired to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The Tata Sierra ICE is also likely to debut the brand's new triple screen layout, as it was showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo. It could be offered with two seating layout - 5 seater and 4-seater lounge version with captain seats in second-row. In terms of features, the SUV will have a panoramic sunroof, LEVEL 2 ADAS, ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable driver's seat, digital driver's display, drive modes and many more.
