Maruti Suzuki is aiming to become India’s largest SUV maker by introducing several new models in the country. The company has recently launched the Victoris mid-sized SUV, which is retailed through wide ARENA dealership network. In the next couple of years, MSIL is preparing to launch 4 new SUVs with petrol, hybrid, CNG and electric powertrains.
Maruti Suzuki will launch the Fronx facelift in 2026. The new model will receive significant changes, including an all-new hybrid powertrain. MSIL is working on an affordable Series hybrid powertrain, which will utilise the 1.2L 3-cylinder, Z-Series petrol engine. The Maruti Fronx facelift will be the first model to feature the new hybrid engine, and its testing has already been commenced.
The crossover will also receive subtle changes in terms of styling and features. The cabin could receive a new touchscreen unit, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat and an electric sunroof.
Maruti Suzuki will launch its first electric SUV, the e Vitara in the Indian market in the first half of 2026. Production of the electric SUV has already been commenced at the Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat for export markets. It is based on an all-new scalable platform, which will also underpin the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.
The Suzuki e Vitara will be offered with two battery choices - 48.9kWh and 61.1kWh - both will come with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The higher-spec model will offer a certified range of up to 500km on a single charge. The electric SUV supports fast charging, and the bigger 61.1kWh battery can attain 0 to 80% charging status in 50 minutes.
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on a micro SUV, codenamed Y43, which will rival the likes of the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. Details about the new micro SUV are yet to be revealed, but it is most likely to be based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform. The new micro SUV is likely to be offered with multiple powertrains, including petrol, CNG or even a hybrid derivative. The small SUV is expected to be launched in late 2026 or 2027.
Maruti Suzuki officials reveal that it is considering an all-new premium SUV, which will measure above 4.5 meters in length. The new SUV could be the 7-seater derivative of the Grand Vitara. It is likely to be based on the heavily modified version of Suzuki’s Global-C architecture that underpins the Grand Vitara and Victoris. The SUV is expected to be offered with petrol and hybrid powertrains. It will take on the likes of the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700.
