Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s much-awaited version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is finally set to make its debut on April 3rd, as officially confirmed by the company. Back in August 2023, the Japanese automaker had trademarked the name "Urban Cruiser Taisor" in India, which is expected to be the nameplate for the rebadged Fronx. While there may be some cosmetic differences both inside and out, the underlying structure and mechanics are likely to remain the same.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is set to offer customers a fresh choice with its unique design elements. Unlike previous rebadged models, such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno/ Toyota Glanza, the Taisor will showcase distinct styling aligned with the automaker's modern design language. It is also believed that the vehicle could get a blend of Toyota's design philosophy and elements from the Maruti Fronx.
Notable exterior features will include Prius-inspired headlights with rectangular projectors and C-shaped LED elements, a bold Toyota grille, and stylish alloy wheels.
The SUV is expected to come equipped with advanced equipment such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an Arkamys sound system, wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Heads-Up Display, a wireless phone charger, and keyless entry.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is likely to share the same powertrain choices as Fronx. So, it might offer two engine options; a 1.0-litre BoosterJet unit and a 1.2-litre petrol engine. While the former currently produces a maximum power output of 100 bhp with 147 Nm of torque, the latter generates 87 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque.
Both engines will come fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Further, the turbo-petrol engine will receive a 6-speed torque converter automatic, while the petrol engine could get a 5-speed AMT.
Alongside the Maruti Fronx, it will compete with vehicles such as the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza among others. It is likely to be priced slightly higher than the Fronx.
