Tata Sierra EV launching in Q2, 2026 Mahindra to launch BE 07 e-SUV in 2027
With CAFE III norms arriving soon, automakers are planning to introduce multiple new electric vehicles to drive sales in the market. Buoyed by positive response for new age electric SUVs, Mahindra is planning to launch its fourth Born electric SUV based on the BE 07 in the country in 2027. On the other hand, the long-awaited Tata Sierra EV is set to launch in the Q2, 2026.

The new Sierra EV will be based on the Acti.ev platform that also underpins the Curvv EV and the Punch EV. It will take on the likes of the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and the MG ZS EV. The electric SUV looks largely identical to the ICE-powered Sierra, except for the few EV-specific changes. It gets a closed-off front fascia, new aero-optimised alloys and new bumpers. Inside the cabin, it will get a triple screen dashboard comprising a a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 12.3-inch co-occupant screen and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. Other features will include LED lighting system, ventilated and powered front seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, LEVEL 2 ADAS, electronic parking brake with auto hold and others.
The new Tata Sierra EV is expected to share battery packs from Curvv EV and Harrier EV. The lower-spec model could get a 55kWh battery from Curvv EV, while the higher-spec model is likely to get a 65kWh battery pack. It will be a front-wheel-drive electric SUV, but the higher-spec model will also get a dual-motor AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) setup. We expect the new Sierra EV to offer a realistic range of around 400-450km in a single charge.
Mahindra has started testing its fourth ‘born-electric’ SUV on the Indian roads. Scheduled to be launched in 2027, the next Born EV will be based on the BE.07 concept that debuted in 2022. This electric SUV will sit between the BE 6 and Mahindra XEV 9e, and will directly rival the Tata Harrier EV and the VinFast VF 7. While the BE 6 and XEV 9e comes with unique Coupe-SUV design, the Mahindra BE 7 will have a proper SUV shape with modern design elements.
The Born Electric SUV will have a more upright stance than the BE 6, featuring an upright front fascia, raked front and rear windscreens and a flat roofline. The cabin will look similar to the XEV 9e, featuring triple-screen covering the entire dashboard. It is expected to be offered with three battery options - 59kWh, 70kWh, and 79kWh, which currently available with the XEV 9S. The electric SUV will offer a certified range of over 600km on a single charge. It is also likely to support fast charging of up to 175kW.
