Vietnamese car maker VinFast plans to introduce two new electric SUVs in India in the second half of 2025. The two SUVs, VinFast VF 6 and VF 7, will compete against some of the best electric cars currently on offer in India. VinFast is planning to establish its presence in the Indian market for electric cars with these introductions.
The VinFast VF 6 is an electric SUV with a small footprint, in the same category as the Hyundai Creta both in size and capability. It measures 4,238 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,594 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,730 mm, which suits driving both within cities and highways.
The VF 6 is produced in two models, and both are available in front-wheel drive (FWD). The initial variant features a 130 kW motor and returns 174 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, and the second variant features a 150 kW motor and returns 201 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. The battery pack will have a claimed capacity of a 59.6 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate), which provides a 410 km range for the first variant and 379 km for the second variant based on WLTP tests.
On the inside, the VF 6 boasts of top-class amenities such as a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). They are offered in the base trim as well.
The VinFast VF 7 is a bigger electric SUV that competes with the Tata Harrier EV in India. The VF 7 is 4,545 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,636 mm tall. It has more space inside than the VF 6, so it's suitable for bigger families.
The VF 7 will come in three trim levels: Standard-range FWD, Extended-range FWD, and Extended-range AWD. The base model is fitted with a 130 kW motor and 59.6 kWh battery pack, and has an estimated range of 430 km (NEDC). The mid model has a 75.3 kWh battery pack, and the estimated range is up to 450 km (WLTP). The highest AWD trim vehicle has two motors with a combined 260 kW and 500 Nm torque, and it has a range of 431 km (WLTP).
All these modern comforts like a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, vegan leather, panoramic glass roof, and Level 2 ADAS are also found in this SUV, just like in the VF 6. The top model also receives bigger 21-inch wheels for an extra luxurious look.
VF 6 and VF 7 will be introduced in India by VinFast as luxury electric SUVs. While the cost of VF 6 will be around Rs. 35 lakh, that of VF 7 is expected around Rs. 50 lakh, ex-showroom. Both the amounts are acceptable compared to other electric vehicles in the market now, considering the extra features and latest technology the vehicles offer.
VF 6 will encounter the Mahindra BE 6, whereas VF 7 will encounter larger electric SUVs such as Tata Harrier EV. Both the vehicles will get rapid charging functions such as Level 2 AC and Level 3 DC rapid charging.
