Volkswagen’s only 7-seater SUV returns to India in 2026. Tayron R-Line to sit above the Tiguan as the brand’s flagship. Powerful petrol engine, AWD, and premium features expected.
Volkswagen India has officially confirmed the launch of the Tayron R-Line SUV for the Indian market. The new SUV will arrive in Q1 2026 and will become Volkswagen’s flagship offering in India. It will also be the brand’s only 7-seater SUV after the Tiguan Allspace was discontinued in 2021.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will be positioned above the Tiguan R-Line. It will rival SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian in India. Volkswagen will bring the Tayron R-Line via the CKD route, with assembly taking place at its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility.
The Tayron was earlier sold only in China but became a global model in 2024. It effectively replaces the Tiguan Allspace internationally. The SUV can be seen as a long-wheelbase version of the second-generation Tiguan, redesigned to offer more space and a third row of seats.
The Tayron measures close to 4.8 metres in length and has a wheelbase of around 2.8 metres. This extra size allows it to offer proper third-row seating, something missing in the Tiguan R-Line currently sold in India.
Volkswagen has already teased the Tayron R-Line, showing illuminated VW logos at the front and rear. The SUV will also get connected light elements along with sleek LED headlights and tail lights. As an R-Line model, it will focus on a sporty yet premium look.
Inside, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is expected to be very similar to the Tiguan R-Line, with the main difference being the addition of a third row. It is likely to get a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display.
Other expected features include sporty seats, premium upholstery, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, massage function, and Level-2 ADAS. A premium Harman audio system may also be offered.
The Tayron R-Line is expected to offer up to 850 litres of boot space with the third row folded. With all three rows in use, boot space could be around 345 litres, making it practical for family use.
Powering the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will be the familiar 2.0-litre TSI EVO turbo petrol engine. It produces 204 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is confirmed to launch in India in Q1 2026. Once launched, it will serve as Volkswagen’s most premium SUV offering in the country, focusing on space, comfort, and sporty appeal.
