Volkswagen New Sub-4m SUV for India: Launch Timeline and Specs Outlined
Volkswagen to launch Kylaq based compact SUV in 2027 It will be powered by a 1.0L TSI petrol engine
Volkswagen India has officially announced to enter the country’s high-volume sub-4 metre SUV segment. To be positioned below the Taigun, the all-new compact crossover will be Volkswagen’s entry-level model in the Indian market. This compact SUV will fill the void left since the exit of the Polo hatchback. The new model will be based on the localised MQB AO-IN platform.
Shared Platform Architecture & Engineering
The new SUV will share its underpinnings and body Shell with the Skoda Kylaq. Despite platform sharing, Volkswagen will equip the SUV with distinct styling elements - including a signature VW horizontal front grille, sharp LED headlamps with DRLs, smooth surfaces, flared wheel arches and VW-esque horizontal taillights.

Powertrain & Performance
The VW compact SUV will be powered by the tried & tested 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Key Features
It is expected to feature a dual digital screen setup comprising a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a digital instrument console. Other key features likely to include automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging and connected car tech. The upcoming VW compact SUV will be equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESP), ABS with EBD, traction control system, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
