Upcoming Volkswagen Compact SUV to Rival the Nexon and Brezza

VW to launch Kylaq based compact SUV in 2027 1.0L turbo petrol engine with manual and 6-speed AT

Volkswagen is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the Indian market. The company will introduce the Taigun, Virtus facelifts, Tayron 7-seater SUV before the end of this year. Moreover, VW will finally enter the sub-4 meter SUV space with an all-new model by mid-2027. It will take on the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

This upcoming sub-4 meter SUV is likely to be the re-badged version of the Skoda Kylaq. This model is expected to carry a different nomenclature and distribution strategy. It will receive significant design and interior changes to offer Volkswagen’s brand identity. The new VW compact SUV is reportedly to get a sportier GT Line trim with all-black treatment.

The new Volkswagen compact SUV is expected to share some of the design elements from bigger SUVs, including the Taigun and Tayron SUVs. The small SUV is expected to get new plastic parts including a new front grille, new bumpers, new headlights and tail-lights. It is likely to source features from the Kylaq, which includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, rear parking sensors, TPMS, multiple airbags and others.

The compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed torque converter automatic.
