Volkswagen to Launch Virtus Facelift and New Compact SUV in India

Volkswagen Virtus facelift launch expected by year-end New Kylaq compact SUV launch confirmed for 2027

Volkswagen India is set to expand its India 2.0 portfolio with two new models, including the Virtus facelift and the high-volume sub-4-metre compact SUV. The sub-4-metre crossover will be built on the heavily localised MQB AO-IN platform, which also underpins the Skoda Kylaq, VW Taigun and the Virtus.

1. Volkswagen Virtus Facelift

The upcoming Virtus facelift will come with subtle exterior refinements, upgraded cabin technology, and safety enhancements. It comes with sharper front bumpers, revised LED projector headlight clusters, newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels, and revised GT-Line dark accents. Inside the cabin, the sedan will get ventilated front seats, a revised digital instrument cluster, updated software for the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, and rear-seat massager function.

It was speculated to get LEVEL 2 ADAS and panoramic sunroof; however, these two features are not likely to be offered. The sedan will continue to be offered with the 1.0L TSI petrol producing 114 bhp and 178 Nm and the 1.5L TSI petrol that churns out 147 bhp and 250 Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, an 8-speed torque converter automatic and a 7-speed DSG.

2. All-new Sub-4m Compact SUV

Volkswagen India has officially announced to re-enter the high-volume sub-4 meter segment, which VW had exited following the discontinuation of the Ameo and Polo hatchback. The new compact SUV will sit below the Taigun in Volkswagen India’s line-up, and will target the high-volume segment dominated by Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue. It will be a badge-engineered version of the Skoda Kylaq, but will receive substantial design changes to give it a different design.

It will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, TSI petrol engine that also powers the Skoda Kylaq. Transmission choices will include an 8-speed torque converter automatic unit and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The new VW compact SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 13 lakh, ex-showroom.
